The Fall season is a great time to reflect and give thanks for the blessings of the year. I am grateful for the wonderful surprises and the high points this year.

The writing life puts us in the path of meeting some of the best authors in the world. That being said, I am grateful for the opportunity to read and review novels by Wayne Kerr.

Book Review – 5 Stars

Framed by Wayne Kerr, Author

Kerr has articulated the inside scoop on the former homicide detective Reggie Swann now serving time for murder. Dubbed the “Black Swan” since her trial she now wore orange like the other prison inmates. The difference was that she was hated by both them and the prison guards who were once considered her fellow comrades of the law.

It had been almost ten years since she was incarcerated and after many failed attempts at being released, she had lost hope. Her disinterest in the new trial except to escape the hell hole, at least during the proceedings, was worth being out of harm’s way for a day.  She knew better than to get her hopes up and what more there was nothing to go back to unless she could get her former job back.

Would she be exonerated this time and be able to walk back into her old life or would she carry the stigma of a murderer? If so, how could she clear her own name without being a detective again?

Dive in to find the answer to these questions and more as Reggie Swann’s life turns down dark paths that’ll make you question, who the villain is in this scenic Canadian province. A must read psychological thriller! Reviewed by Carolyn Bowen, Author

Embracing the New Season, The Writing Life, Carolyn Bowen Author

The month of September is flying by as I go about my writing life. I can already imagine the smell of pumpkin spice flavoring in my coffee as we go into the autumn months. The season unofficially began on September 1st. Specifically, the Northern Hemisphere marks the autumnal equinox on Friday, September 22, 2017, at exactly 4:02 P.M. EDT. I’m believing it’s going to be a wonderful one.

This month has been refreshing as I’ve gone about updating my marketing program for my novels. At the same time, I realized that I needed to get back on my writing path. Several ideas for new books have floated across my mind. Within the next few weeks, I’ll begin the process of putting my thoughts on paper. I’m hoping this new book will come together as easily as “The Long Road Home.” Please send some positive vibes my way! (smiles)

Happy Summer Days Ahead

Book Review: The Messiah Matrix by Kenneth John Atchity

As an author, I challenge myself to read to enhance my writing skills and to experience new worlds through reading. That being said, today’s book review is based on “The Messiah Matrix” by author Kenneth John Atchity.

Note Worthy: Religious mystery, action, and romance make this an incredible read.

You first have to believe the possibilities of this religious mystery. Otherwise, the story won’t make sense and the actions of the main and supporting characters will be absurd. That being said…

“The Messiah Matrix” leads us on an incredible journey with believable research to reinforce the mystery. The characters are well-developed and support the story plot.

There’s a Jesuit priest, F. Ryan McKeon, whose world view is collectively shattered after meeting Emily, the stunning archeologist.

Emily’s finding of an ancient Roman coin recovered from a wreck off the coast of ancient Judea puts her on the path of discovery that threatens the very foundation of the Catholic faith.

She and Ryan fight their way through a passion for one another and the desire to unravel the truth about the historical existence of the real “Christ Savior.”

They follow the maze to intercept the Roman coin while questioning the Vatican’s interest in the valuable asset. Their safety was questionable with the Jesuits leaders involved in murdering one of their own, a once mentor of Ryan McKeon.

You’ll want to follow the investigative leads as the suspense unfolds with romance and suspense to the end. This was an incredible journey that you’ll want to read.

Last month I talked about Southern foods. If you know why that’s important when talking about The Long Road Home, drop me a note. I’ll know you are reading or have read my novel.

Thank you for responding to my recipe request for making an old-fashioned Corn Pone. I tried one and it brought back childhood memories of eating cracklings’ and cornbread with fried chicken and of course iced tea.

I made some black-eyed peas in the crockpot with some beef broth substituting for the water and added some ham pieces along with a couple packets of Goya Sazón Seasoning. It was delicious and my corn pone was quite the accompaniment for this dish.
